Dynamic Coalition on Blockhain Becomes ‘DAO’

The United Nations Secretary-General convenes the Annual Internet Governance Forum (IGF).

The forum features intersessional groups working on diverse internet governance topics.

Among these groups, the Dynamic Coalition on Blockchain Assurance & Standardization (DC-BAS) just made history.

On August 26, 2024, DC-BAS adopted Bylaws and technology to become the first global Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) within the UN IGF framework. Dino Cataldo Dell’Accio, the UN Joint Staff Pension Fund’s Chief Information Officer, praised this as a “groundbreaking step forward in public sector governance.” He highlighted how the DAO showcases blockchain’s potential to boost transparency, inclusivity, and trust in decision-making, setting a new governance model standard.

Dynamic Coalitions (DCs) are grassroots, multistakeholder initiatives, welcoming anyone interested in internet governance issues. These coalitions, recognized by the IGF Secretariat, work within the IGF framework, adhering to its principles and code of conduct. DC-BAS focuses on developing blockchain assurance standards and best practices, aiming to create a more reliable internet environment, fostering an “Internet We Can Trust.”

Hosted by the Government Blockchain Association (GBA), a non-profit with members in over 500 government offices globally, the DC-BAS is committed to leveraging blockchain technology for public sector improvement. The GBA supports over 50 working groups focused on blockchain solutions for public services, with a mission to enhance public-private sector collaboration in blockchain technology application.

The DAO is managed through GOSH (Git Open Source Holder), using the Acki Nacki protocol, a decentralized platform enabling community-driven governance through collective voting. DC-BAS’s objectives include developing blockchain standards, establishing a trusted blockchain solutions directory, and sharing blockchain technology applications in governance with the global community.
