Genome automatically grants users ownership of both .GNO and .gnosis.eth names, providing a seamless, interoperable user journey within Gnosis across EVM-compatible blockchains.

May 14th 2024 – Gnosis, today announces the launch of Genome, a digital ID service native to Gnosis Chain. Developed in collaboration with Web3 domain and identity platform SpaceID and Web3 messaging protocol dm3, Genome allows users to translate their lengthy, technical wallet addresses to human-readable names, making it easier to send and receive transactions and interact within the Gnosis ecosystem.

With Genome, users can claim ownership of their name and use it as their passport in Web3. The service automatically synchronizes across Gnosis dApps, communities, and social networks, giving users a single identity and login that they can use across their favorite services. Genome also boasts full interoperability with the Ethereum Name Service (ENS), thereby enabling users to claim ownership of two domain names simultaneously (.GNO and .gnosis.eth). Pointing to the same address – powered by dm3-developed smart contract – links GNO domains with ENS on all ENS-integrated dapps as well as Gnosis chain integrations.

Genome integrates deeply with various applications on Gnosis Chain such as Gnosis Pay, and Circles, as well as with other blockchain utilities like Blockscout, NiftyFair. This integration ensures that users can maintain a consistent identity across multiple platforms, enhancing interoperability.

Friederike Ernst, Co-Founder of Gnosis, said,Launching Genome and allowing our ecosystem users to claim their .GNO domain name is an essential step in realizing Gnosis’ mission of creating accessible open infrastructure for the decentralized internet. The additional opportunity to claim a .gnosis.eth username is in line with our key objective of elevating Web3 UX industry-wide. From payments to gaming to SocialFi, if Web3 is going to fulfill its promises, we need to accelerate interoperable on-chain communication and identification tools that match the Web3 experience with the high UX standards users experience in Web2 settings.”

Gnosis is the incubator of a host of leading decentralized solutions that give agency back to the people. These include Safe, a smart contract-based self-custody protocol; Circles UBI, a new digital ecosystem contributing to a fairer economy; Cow Protocol, an on-chain liquidity trading protocol; and most recently Gnosis Pay, which allows users to spend crypto anywhere through the Gnosis VISA-supported debit card, and more.

Spun out from Consensys and secured by over 200k+ validators, the EVM-compatible Gnosis Chain prioritizes credible neutrality and resiliency. Combining low transaction costs with high performance, speed, and scalability, Gnosis Chain is the perfect foundation for the next generation of builders and app developers.

Ernst concluded, “The launch of Genome domains plays a pivotal role in making our vision of a more inclusive, fair world underpinned by accessible open infrastructure a reality.”

Genome’s launch follows Gnosis’ investment into Zeal and HOPR, as well as the rollout of uRamp, a platform aimed at streamlining transactions between on-chain assets and traditional fiat currencies. These advancements within the broader Gnosis ecosystem will be on full display at its annual flagship event, DappCon, which is taking place from May 21st to 23rd in Berlin, Germany.
